About Rob Howley
ROBERT J P HOWLEY, BA PhD Dip.RSA
Rob Howley studied English and Philosophy at the University of Manchester, going on to do a doctorate in the History of Ideas. After working in a number of universities and colleges he set up ELT English Language Training, a British-Council accredited language school, which he ran for nearly 30 years. He has taught numerous classes at every level from Beginner to near-native, with particular success at the higher levels, coaching hundreds of students in preparation for their spoken tests.

As a teacher, Rob has prepared students from all over the world for Cambridge First, Advanced and Proficiency. As Academic Director, Rob ran training programmes for ELT teachers with exam classes. The pass rate achieved was outstanding – over 95% average in the last ten years.

In addition, he has extensive experience with 1 to 1 tuition and corporate language training, and has designed courses for a large number of companies and institutions from all areas of the business world.

Rob believes strongly that language is best learned when students combine organised study with conscious application in the real world. He thinks that modern technology provides great opportunities for language learners, and wants his students to continually challenge and revise the methods they use to learn.
