Most of my online lessons are 1 to 1, and this is obviously the best format for maximum individual attention. But a great favourite of mine is 2 to 1 (two students working together with one teacher). If you are interested in why I think 2 to 1 is an excellent option, please read my Blog here.
I have worked with Rob Howley on a number of occasions and really appreciate his skills and advice. He has helped me enormously with the preparation of presentations I have made to numerous senior officials.
Rob’s methodology is very dynamic and focuses on the why, how and when rather than a mechanical and grammatical one. We worked very hard on my CV presentation and cover letter, which helped me to find a new job.
Business Skills
In the last 30 years I have supervised – and taught on – courses for people from some of the world’s top international companies. The people I teach come from every area of business – finance, marketing, legal, HR, production, IT, sales, customer service and R&D.

And my work extends beyond the corporate market – I have also taught architects, diplomats, solicitors, flight attendants, surgeons, teachers, chefs, musicians and tour guides (not to mention the occasional sommelier and fighter pilot). So I’ve worked with a vast range of people who need ‘English for Professionals’.
What these very different people have in common, of course, is their (or their boss’s!) desire to improve their English. I am happy to say that all my clients feel that not only have they improved their English language skills, they have also enjoyed themselves at the same time. This is very much my philosophy – to provide expert, professional training in a friendly and relaxed environment.
I’m happy to work with you on any language area or skill that you need. Here are some of the most common topics I cover on my online courses:

My weakness was pronunciation and thanks to many exercises, Rob managed to help me a lot.
Spoken as well as written, my English has got a great deal better and I feel way more comfortable using it.
Speaking and Pronunciation
Speaking
We can do a huge variety of speaking tasks and activities:
- Dialogue-building
- Pair-work questionnaires
- Interviews
- Quizzes
- Picture descriptions
- Short talks
I can structure sessions to:
- Practice specific grammatical areas
- Activate vocabulary
- Develop your practical, ‘functional’ English
We can also work on:
- Conversation skills
- Giving talks
- Telling jokes and personal stories
- Discussing – agreeing and disagreeing

Technology helps so much when I teach speaking skills online:
- Chat for instant feedback
- Subtitles for constant monitoring
- Audio recording for post-session follow-up
Pronunciation
I focus on the things that make English sound English!
- The ‘weak’ unstressed sound (‘schwa’)
- Word and sentence stress
- Linking
- Intonation
I’ll help you with the specific sounds you have problems with, and we’ll find phrases and sentences you use in the real world that include all the things we work on.
I’ll also give you lots to work on between sessions, using VoiceMemos and WhatsApp.

I’m really satisfied with the course – my English has improved a lot, and also I passed the Cambridge First Certificate exam which was my goal from the beginning.
Rob is a fantastic teacher! I took 3 months of 1-1 IELTS Writing classes and improved my score! Thanks Rob!
